Botulinum Toxin for Excessive Underarm Sweating

When botulinum toxin is injected into the underarm area for excessive sweating, it does not block the sweat glands themselves. Instead, it temporarily prevents sweat signals from reaching the glands, significantly reducing sweat production.

Botulinum toxin blocks the neurotransmitter acetylcholine from reaching the sweat glands. Acetylcholine is the chemical that signals the glands to produce sweat. By cutting off this signal, the injection controls excessive sweating. Sweat is then expelled through other regions of the body.

Its effects typically last for about 6 months. This is a safe and effective method but needs to be repeated at regular intervals.
